Purpose of Ministry "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord…" (Ephesians 5:18, 19). The Christian faith has been a singing faith from the very beginning. From Genesis, "when the morning stars sang together," to the Revelation when that "new song" is heard around the throne, God's Word is replete with exhortations and encouragements to praise Him with music. In fact, Ephesians 5:18 & 19 teach us that evidence of a sprit-filled life is a singing heart. The same is true of a local church and it is certainly true of Valley Baptist Church. Valley Baptist Church enjoys one of the largest, most comprehensive music ministries you will ever find. Over 600 people are currently enrolled whether it is Praise Choir, Praise Orchestra, Soloists, Ensembles, Youth and Children’s choirs or Drama. Adult Music Division Our Praise Choir is open to all adults 18 years old and above. This choir leads in worship in our Sunday morning services, presents special programs throughout the year, premier’s new musicals, goes on road trips, makes recordings, and presents our Candlelight service at Christmas. Choir practice is held each Wednesday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Instrumental Music Ministry The Instrumental Music Ministry consists of the Adult Praise Orchestra, the Gathering Band, Exaltation and Celebration Orchestra and the Valley Academy. Student Music Ministry Consisting of student choir and ensembles, ages Junior High through High School, presenting special programs throughout the year and evangelical outreach in the community. Children’s Choir Children’s Choirs are a wonderful ministry for kindergarteners through sixth graders that teaches children music fundamentals, helps them develop as singers, provides them the opportunity to perform as a group, and helps them grow spiritually. Our seven age-graded choirs meet on Sunday evenings at 6:00 p.m. (concurrent with the adult service), September through May, in the Children’s Building. Children are welcome to enroll at any point during the choir season. There is no cost to participate. In addition to singing for evening services both in the fall and the spring, all choirs are also featured in two special annual events: Hanging of the Green, which marks the official start of the Christmas season here at Valley, and our spring concert, which includes a musical/drama by our 4th-6th graders that always proves to be one of the highlights of the year. Children’s Choirs also provide an opportunity for adults to help children have a great experience in choir and pass on to them an enthusiasm for praising God in song. You don’t have to be a music expert to be a part of the team, ether. Valley Players The goal of this ministry is to dramatically witness to our Valley family and others. We do this through dramatic and comic acting, pantomime, reader’s theatre, narration and participation in adult and children’s music ministry.
