Pastor Roger has been preaching the gospel practically every week since he was 17 years old. He is committed to teaching the Bible through exposition that is both accurate and relevant. He grew up in Oklahoma where he still maintains a small ranch that he visits as often as his schedule allows. The only livestock that he has in California are Koi that thankfully stay in a fish pond in his back yard. He is married to Ginger and they have 3 grown children, all of whom are involved in ministry. His favorite pastime is spending time with his grandchildren.

After being raised at Valley his entire childhood, Andrew is thrilled to now be given the task of leading the Sunday School ministry of the church. He has earned a Bachelors of Applied Theology from California Baptist University and his Masters of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife Kelsey have their hands full caring for their three kids, the oldest of which is three. Who knows at this point if there will be a fourth? As busy as he is with ministry and family, Andrew always reserves Saturdays in the fall to watch Oklahoma football. Boomer Sooner!

Before coming on staff as an associate pastor here at VBC, Eric served as a senior pastor in several churches for over 20 years. As a Christian studies major, he has both a Bachelor’s degree (Cal. Baptist University) and a Master’s degree (New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary). Eric has a passion for Christ, His Word, and His church. He and his wife Cindy have two grown kids, and in his spare time he loves reading and playing music (piano, harmonica, and accordion!).

Rod is honored to be a part of the church’s ministry team in his home town. He and his wife, Shelly, have been married since 1984 and have 3 grown children, Seth, Kala, and Tamara. Rod earned his Bachelor’s degree in Communications from University of the Pacific and has used that degree in real estate, insurance, and partnering with his family in business. He has been blessed to grow in his faith and was called into ministry and later accepted a position at Valley Baptist Church as the Minister to Preschool. For the past 11 years he has served as the Camp Director of Jenness Park Christian Camp, owned and operated by the California Southern Baptist Convention. Family is near and dear to his heart and he looks forward to serving the church staff, their families and the families of the congregation through his life in service as the Administrator.

Bob and Cindy Orndorff are graduates of Cincinnati Bible College (now Cincinnati Christian University). Bob has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Ministries with graduate work in Theology. His full-time employment is as a funeral preplanning counselor with a local funeral home and cemetery. Cindy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Church Music, majoring in vocal performance. Her full-time employment is as a music teacher at Stockdale Christian School, where she has served since 1995. They have lead Valley’s children’s choir ministry since 2002.

Bryon is the video producer in Valley’s Media Department. He enjoys using digital and practical media tools to communicate the stories that are all around us. Spending time with his family at home, at the beach, in the mountains, or anywhere else that offers a perspective into God’s creation is an important part of his life. Bryon has a Bachelor’s degree in Media Management and a Master’s degree in Television and Film Production.

My name is Carolyn Cook, I am married to Craig Cook and have three sons and Five grandchildren. I have been a member of Valley Baptist Church for the past 18 years. I have been employed as the Food Service Director for the past 18 years. I am a charter member of the Encouragers Sunday School Class. I know it was God’s leading in our lives to draw us to this church. I am honored to be able to work in the Lord’s House each and every week.

Cyd has been active in the Music Ministry for many years. She sings with the Praise Choir, Praise Team, Praisingers, trio, New Day and leads worship in the Women’s Wednesday morning Bible Study. She and her husband Randy also serve at Living Stone Ministry, Valley’s Mexican Mission Church. She and Randy have three children and have been blessed with three grandchildren.

Dave is blessed to lead a team of creative and technical folks who take care of Valley's media needs. Originally from Chicago, he enjoys his family and many interests. Dave has been a radio personality, music director and program director. He’s a Certified Broadcast Engineer. He also serves as an Officer in the United States Air Force Auxiliary, the Civil Air Patrol.

Hector Jimenez, also known as “Mister”, is a musician who is passionate about worshiping God through music. He loved music at a very young age and carried that love to Cal Baptist University where he graduated with a degree in music. After ministering through music as a child, singing and playing hymns all though high school and leading worship through music at CBU, he is now serving with his wife Jessica here at Valley Baptist Church.

Born and raised in Bakersfield in a Christian home, Jaime was very involved in music and band throughout school. Meeting her husband in Valley Baptist’s orchestra, she is now enjoying raising her two daughters and expecting another little one in the Spring. Her interests are: music, Disneyland, family trips, camping, softball.

Jason is the pastor of Bakersfield Arabic Baptist Church here at Valley. Originally from Jordan, Jason and his wife Evelyn enjoy teaching a class on Arabic language and culture. Jason is involved in translating and editing the Today`s Walk program. He also ministers in the Middle Eastern Southern Baptist Conference yearly. Jason has a Bachelor's degree in Pastoral Counseling. and a Master`s Degree in Theology. In his free time Jason loves spending time with his family and painting.

As the Assistant Media Director, Jay is the primary sound engineer for all services and events and is in charge of the set-up and maintenance of all A/V equipment. Born and raised in Memphis, Jay enjoys spending time with his wife and three boys and keeping up with the University of Memphis Tigers football and basketball teams. He has a love for the outdoors and any activity involving a beach or the mountains. Before coming to Valley, Jay worked at FedEx and was a radio personality in Christian and Adult Contemporary Radio.

Jeanette is the Assistant to the Children’s Minister and Ministry Coordinator for our Valley Kids’ Ministry. She works closely with the other ministry leaders and coordinates Sunday School, AWANA, Vacation Bible School, summer camp, mission trips and other activities for children from 1st grade to 6th grade. It seems that anything and everything that has to do with kids finds Jeanette right in the mix of things. Her husband is also a Sunday School teacher and both love serving where kids are at. With five grown children between them and 10 grandchildren and counting, she loves the wonderment and excitement all children bring to their families. She’s lived in Bakersfield many years but still has roots tied to being born and raised in Alaska.

After years of accounting, database, and software experience in various business settings, Jeanine works as the coordinator and trainer for the systems used at Valley. She also gets to talk to people from around the country and across the world who have watched the Today’s Walk broadcast and want copies of programs to share with others. On Sunday mornings you’ll find her welcoming visitors and checking in children at the Children’s information booth. Jeanine is also crazy about her husband Dave and daughter Olivia.

Pastor Jeremy grew up in the small town of Ramona in the San Diego Area. In the summer of 2003 he moved to Bakersfield to wrestle and Study business at CSUB. In his college years he gained experience with ministry by volunteering as a High School Young Life Leader and in 2009 became the assistant to the minister of Young Adults. Jeremy is excited about his position as the High School Pastor and is looking forward to what God will do through the students at Valley Baptist Church. Jeremy enjoys spending time with his wife Kelsey, playing board games, and playing the occasional round of golf.

John is a Bakersfield native; born and raised. He has been married to his wife Amy since 2004, and they have two wonderful kids, Tillman and McKenna. When he is not at the church or at a church event he loves to snowboard, hit the gym, or go hunting. John spent much of his younger years wrestling, so that is one of his favorite sports, and he is a rabid Chicago Bears fan. Prior to being called into ministry he has sold everything from retail to medical supplies to lasers; working in ministry is a much more enjoyable and rewarding way to spend the time God has given him here on this earth.

John holds a Music Education degree from John Brown University, Siloam Springs , Arkansas, a Master’s degree in Church Music from Samford University, Birmingham, Alabama, and a California Teachers Credential from Cal State Bakersfield. He has been a VBC staff member since April of 1997, with primary responsibilities in Choir Directing, Instrumental Ministry and the Academy of Performing Arts.

Pastor John is one busy man. He oversees the Discipleship Ministry at Valley and tries to encourage everyone to get involved and deepen their walk with the Lord. He is also responsible for new memberships and answering the questions one might have considering joining Valley and involving members to become servants in ministries they are gifted to serve in. He also oversees the Care Connection Lay Counseling and Pre Marital Counseling and is very involved in counseling on a daily basis. Many who come to see Pastor John leave with a changed heart having been introduced to our Savior. Pastor John teaches a Sunday School class and a Basics for Believers Class on Sunday mornings. Pastor John sees his ministries broken down into 4 areas: membership, counseling, teaching, and spiritually maturing those new to Christ and stirring up the gifts each were given at the point of their Salvation, so they can best serve the body of Christ here at Valley. When he is not on campus he enjoys his family. His wife Karen is his secretary and they have 5 grown children and 13 grandchildren. His hobbies include golf and he is quite the history enthusiast, with special interests in the Civil War, Indian Wars and World War II.

Karen is Pastor John Sherley’s secretary/wife. She works alongside Pastor John in making the Discipleship Ministry a blessing to many. Her desire is that everyone will take advantage of the classes we offer to enrich their walk with the Lord. She also takes calls for the Care Connection Lay Counseling and prepares for the Membership Information Dinners that we have 4 times a year. One special event she oversees is our Annual Grief Share Dinner in the fall, where we minister to those in our church who have lost a loved one during the year. When Karen is not on campus she enjoys her family of 5 grown children and 13 grandchildren.

Kathy is our director of first impressions in the administration office. She enjoys being a member of a family of believers who inspire each other to be servants of Christ. Kathy enjoys keeping busy and is very thankful for the many blessings God has placed in her life and lives each day thankful for God’s Amazing Grace.

Kathy is excited to have the opportunity to direct Small Wonders Preschool and The Rock, Valley’s before and after school program. She brings with her a wealth of enthusiasm for children. She has over 30 years’ experience working with children of all ages. Kathy loves to travel. Her motto is, “Just put me in the car and I’ll go anywhere with you.” She has been married for 39 years and has two grown daughters. Her love of travel serves her well as one of her daughters lives as far east of California as possible. Kathy keeps very busy on the home front taking care of her “babies”, all of whom have four legs!

Pastor Larry Wood was saved on the last Sunday in May, 1969. Since then he has served Baptist Churches in Oklahoma, Tennessee, New Jersey, Northwest Arkansas and California as Senior Pastor. He currently serves as Pastor to Pastoral Care and directs the Senior Adult division at Valley Baptist Church in Bakersfield, CA.
Pastor and Judy Wood have been married for 37 years and have two adult children, Sarah & Jesse. They have two granddaughters (Lauren & Melony).
Pastor Larry is a graduate from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Radio, Television and Film with a emphasis in Sales and Management. He attended Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary.

Lori does a little bit of everything involving preschoolers. She can often be seen biking about town, or running (slowly) with her husband of 30 years and/or her three poorly-behaved, little dogs. She is the proud mother of three well-behaved, grown children. Some of Lori’s favorite earthly things are vegetables, puppies, electronics, and cranberry juice.

Matt Weir serves as Valley’s minister to Children. He feels blessed to be part of such an important ministry. Matt and his wife Amy have 5 children of their own ranging from 2 to 14 years old. Matt believes that the position of children’s Pastor goes far beyond just ministering to children and that ministering to the entire family is key. Prior to becoming the children’s pastor Matt was very involved in evangelism and missions and plans on making evangelism and missions an integral part of the Children’s ministry. Matt is a kid at heart, loves kids, loves family, and is quite at home in this ministry.

Michael is a self-trained graphic artist with 7 years of graphic design experience. Before coming to Valley Baptist Church he worked for Teen Mania Ministries in Texas for three years designing clothing lines and print material which reached young people all over the United States. On the weekend you'll surely find him at the movies. Michael is a huge film buff and has seen just about every current movie, just ask him.

After working at the church for many years Mickey now works with Senior Adults in the church and Convalescent Homes which is her delight. Mickey loves life, her family, and friends. Above all she loves her Lord and so thankful she is able to read His Word.

Rachel Gage has been on staff at Valley since 2001, serving in the youth, children’s and preschool divisions. She is currently Administrative Assistant for the preschool department and Small Wonders Day Care program of Valley Baptist. Rachel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Youth Ministry from John Brown University, Siloam Springs Arkansas.

Roseanna enjoys being a support person and has worked
as a secretary for many years. Sixteen of them have been
at Valley where she has worked as Receptionist, secretary
to Education Director Rich Paradis, Data Entry, Secretary
to Sr. Pastor Phil Neighbors in charge of missions/evangelism
and Secretary to Pastor Larry Wood in Pastoral Care/Senior
Adults. She helps husband, John with the Lord’s Supper and
the Pastor’s Class coordination. Her sons and their families
keep her hopping. She is best known for knowing all the good
restaurants in town and only cooking breakfast for John each day.

Ruth has a degree in Elementary Education from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, but has spent most of her career as secretary to her husband John. She sings in the choir and has three grown children and three grandchildren.

Scott is the computer guru on staff and maintains Valley’s extensive computer network. He’s also very active in the technical facilities all around campus. An Eagle Scout, Scott enjoys the great outdoors including the mountains and hiking. He’s been spotted at many concerts, on mission trips all over the globe, snowboarding, fishing, cooking, and raising some huge tomato plants. Scott is single, loves Jesus and wants your computer to be virus free.

Born and raised in Salina, Kansas, Sharon gave her heart to Christ as a teenager. She went on to serve the Lord and graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. Sharon served alongside her pastor husband for 30 years at a Christian School and Church in Lafayette, Louisiana. In 2004, Sharon moved to Bakersfield and is now the supervisor of “The Rock,” Before & After School Program, where she works with her director, Kathy Haskell. Sharon guides the staff and children with the service and the love of Christ. “Miss. Sharon,” as she is affectionately called by the staff and students, can be seen leading the children in song and teaching the Word of God. Ms. Sharon’s heart, along with her dedicated staff, is to be the light of Jesus to all the parents and children that attend each day. She is blessed with five grandchildren whom she loves spending time with.

Being from a large Army family, I have learned that people are very important in the life of everything that is done. I have traveled all my life until finally settling down in Bakersfield in 1995. With two grown girls, a husband and spoiled little dog, I love life! I look forward to how God is working in my life; at home and through my church family.

I came to know the Lord as my Savior at a later age of 28 and have since, been experiencing what it means to be His. As Director of Women’s Ministry, I help navigate women through Bible Studies, fellowships, conferences, retreats and community outreaches. Sibyl is privileged to serve as our Preschool Ministries Director. She takes pleasure in seeing that our little one’s needs are met during the week as well as on Sunday mornings. You can easily find her in a classroom or nursery enjoying the company of the children and adults. Sibyl enjoys cooking, singing, decorating and loving on her husband, children, grandchildren and others. Prior to joining our VBC staff Sibyl worked as a case manager with Henrietta Weill Memorial Child Guidance Clinic. She also taught several years for Panama Buena Vista Union and Kern County Superintendent of Schools.

After spending 7 years working with the Preschool Ministry, Stacy now keeps busy organizing and working behind the scenes of our Jr. High and High School ministry and its staff. If you don’t find her at her desk, she can also be found driving youth on mission trips or chaperoning them at camp. Stacy also helps our youth interns learn basic how-to organizational skills in order to take lead positions in other churches. You can tell she loves her job working with the students and the students love her. Often she will find sticky notes on her computer left by a student. In her free time, Stacy likes to read, hang out at the beach and play with her grandchildren.

Susan works part time with the various women’s activities at Valley Baptist Church. She works closely with the women’s ministry director on planning events and other activities to keep our women happy and busy! Her other duties include monitoring the women’s ministry budget, ordering supplies needed by the ministries and other secretarial jobs. She feels this is very rewarding work. She is a wife and mother of 3 children who she loves to spend time with.

Terry grew up and attended school in Bakersfield. He is a member of the first four year graduation class of South High School, 1961. Terry spent two years in the Facilities Department of Valley Baptist. He worked in the Singles Ministry for four years before becoming the Director of Singles in 2011. Moving over to First Impressions is a ministry that he is well suited for and is looking forward to the challenge. Terry spent 41 years in the Textile Rental business. He was General Manager and Vice President of Operations for many years before retiring in May of 2004. Terry is married to a wonderful Christian lady, Barbara. He is a Raiders football and a Dodgers baseball fan, plays golf, not very well and reads a great deal.

Zina comes to us with 20 years experience in the childcare field. She serves with her husband as they head up the high school youth at her home church. Zina is the mother of three handsome boys, two devoted daughters-in-law and four adorable grandchildren. When not at Small Wonders Zina enjoys gardening, Dodgers baseball...and, of course those grandchildren.

Kyle is blessed to lead a team of volunteers in Valley Baptist’s Bus Ministry. Kyle and his dedicated group of volunteers coordinate and participate in transporting children and adults to church. He loves to read theology books and enjoys a good biography every now and then. Kyle loves to spend time with his family and friends playing board games.

Daniel first came to Valley as a college student at CSUB. During his collegiate career the Lord molded his life in ways he could never have imagined. This is why he is so passionate about seeing college students and young adults grow deeper in their faith. After receiving a Bachelors in Communications, he and his wife, Kayla, moved to Fort Worth, TX where he will receive a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Interests outside of family and ministry include: Division I college wrestling, 49ers football, and the beach.

Jake graduated from California State University, Bakersfield with a Bachelors in Public Policy and Administration with a focus on Non-Profit Management. He is currently pursuing his Masters degree in Worship Studies through Liberty University. He recently married the most beautiful woman in the world. Few thought he could accomplish a feat such as this, but against the odds, Allyson said yes and they have been happily married since August 2011! He definitely married up. Jake loves Jesus, his wife, indie rock & roll, and vintage motorcycles (he's still trying to convince his wife to let him buy one :))

Kate Neighbors is an event coordinator and administrative assistant to the Children’s Ministry. She grew up all over California as her father would move churches as a pastor. In 2012, she was happy to name Bakersfield her newest residence as she accepted the opportunity to serve at Valley. She enjoys participating in church activities and teaching children about God. She has an amazing husband, Luke, and together they are committed to raising their two kids with fear and admonition of the Lord. Kate enjoys reading, ultimate Frisbee, disc golf, gatorball, music and singing in her free time. She is excited about God and the path He has set her family on. Kate is looking forward to the opportunity to further the Kingdom of God through Valley Baptist.

Pastor David was raised in Pasadena but moved to Lancaster, CA in 1999. He moved to Bakersfield in 2010. In his free time he enjoys hiking, hitting the gym, going on motorcycle trips, traveling and writing and recording music. God has given David a passion to reach people from all walks of life. David has a degree in Nursing, but is currently working on his BA in religion with a minor in Christian counseling.
